  1. Go to the website of the Advocates of Survivors of Child Abuse (ASCA)
    at www.asca.org.au. Select '1.0 information' from the right side menu bar.
    a From section 1.1, outline what ASCA advocates.
    b From section 1.2, describe the ASCA self-help groups and the role of Mayummari.
    c Go to 1.5, and

    i Define child abuse.
    ii Summarise the facts about abuse.
    iii According to the ASCA survey from 1997:
    -Who are child abusers?
    -What types of abuse were reported?
    -In what ways did people try to heal their abuse?
  2. Visit the NSW Commission for Children and Young People website at www.kids.nsw.gov.au. Follow the icons to answer the following questions.
  3. a In what ways does the Commission help to prevent child abuse?
    b What is the Working with Children check?
    c Describe the projects of the Commission.
  4. Look at the website of the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) at www.napcan.org.au.
  5. a From the top menu bar, select 'How to Report Child Abuse'. Click on your state or territory and record the details of the organisations to contact.
    b Select 'Child Abuse and Neglect' from the 'Education Resources' list on the left side. Open and read the 'Domestic Violence Hurts Children' pamphlet.
    i What is domestic violence?
    ii How does domestic violence affect children?
    iii How can children in domestic violence situations be helped?
  6. Using any reliable Internet search engine, and using search terms such as 'child abuse', 'child abuse in Australia', and 'preventing child abuse', identify two other web sites that provide assistance to families in abusive situations and outline the support each offers.
