Heinemann English Zone 1 teaches students how to respond to and compose a variety of written, spoken and visual texts in different contexts. In addition to the traditional teaching modes of talking, listening, writing and reading, Heinemann English Zone 1 introduces students to the new modes, viewing and representing, via annotated examples and activities. Heinemann English Zone 1 shows students how to analyse, evaluate and appreciate websites, films, speeches, advertisements, posters, media articles, cartoons and various electronic texts.

Explanations are written in student-friendly language and supported by annotated examples plus a range of activities covering all language modes: writing, reading, talking, listening, viewing and representing. Heavy duty tasks in each unit can double as assessment tasks and students can be extended by completing the extra tasks in each unit.
